Accessible online courses benefit all learners. The University of Central Florida has built an open source tool that assists its faculty members to identify and address accessibility issues in their online courses.
The Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool, or UDOIT (pronounced “You Do It”), scans course content, identifies areas that need to be improved based on an accessibility checklist, and provides resources on how to address common accessibility issues. The UDOIT tool is designed to be used by faculty members themselves, and eliminates the need to rely on support from IT or student disability services. This solution-focused approach empowers faculty members to fix problems and avoid issues of accessibility in their future online courses.
