The Chelsea Hotel in Toronto was awarded the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario’s Accessible Tourism Award in November 2016. The hotel was the first Ontario hotel to adopt the Guest Accessibility Package (GAP) program which assists people with disabilities. The package, designed by consulting firm, the Accessibility Professionals of Ontario (APO), focuses on eliminating, or at least minimizing, any potential accessibility obstacles which could impede a guest or customer with a disability.
The GAP program, together with an Accessible Guest Service Training program, means the hotel can cater to people with disabilities in a positive manner. “Our commitment to Closing the Gap is a natural extension of our Chelsea CARES program, which helps Toronto’s hospital community provide complimentary hotel rooms to families in need and includes a five-year sponsorship of SickKids Foundation,” said Rob Housez, Chelsea Hotel’s general manager.
