The Whitby Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Canadian Business SenseAbility sponsored Discover Ability featuring keynote speaker Mark Wafer. This event was held at the Abilities Centre in Whitby, Ontario. As a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Together We Rock! was pleased to be one of the presenting sponsors of this event. An audience of 100 employers and representatives from community organizations attended Discover Ability.
Natalie Prychiko, CEO of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce was MC and gave opening remarks. Leo Plue, Executive Director of the Abilities Centre, and Susan Picarello, Assistant Deputy Minister at the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario welcomed the session participants. Rocco Rossi, President and CEO at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and Florence Chapman, CEO, Canadian Business SenseAbility introduced the topic of hiring people with disabilities and its positive impact on the bottom line.
Mark Wafer, the keynote speaker captivated the audience with his compelling message to create an inclusive workplace and stated that “the number one barrier to inclusive employment is attitude.” During their 25 years as a business owners, Mark and his wife Valerie hired a significant number of employees with disabilities in competitive paid positions.
